overview_

An analysis of the user flow in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock systems portal uncovered a critical usability issue: users were taking over minutes to locate the correct system.

The problem was not the lack of available systems, but the way information was structured. A cluttered interface, outdated visual patterns, and poor hierarchy significantly increased cognitive load and directly impacted task efficiency.

Architecture analysis

An in-depth analysis of the systems page revealed critical issues in its information architecture: most systems were rarely used, several contained outdated or incorrect information, and the lack of hierarchy significantly increased cognitive load.

Categorized structured

To address this, a category-based structure was introduced using UX writing principles, enabling users to quickly identify the system they needed with minimal effort. Alongside with that, the frequently accessed systems were also prioritized at the top of the page and are within 2-months updated based on usage data, allowing the interface to adapt to seasonal demand, such as fishing season for example, and reduce search time.

Usability with direct access

A persistent search bar was also added to support direct access to specific systems. This decision removed the need for browser-specific shortcuts or assumed technical knowledge, improving accessibility and efficiency for a broad and diverse user base.

outcome_

Through leading the redesign, I helped turn a cluttered page into a structured and scalable system. The new organization, search functionality, and data-informed prioritization improved usability while supporting future growth. The outcome was not only a better interface, but a stronger cross-functional process and clearer design direction.
